A Celebration of Local Food

When I received the invite to attend the 3rd Annual Celebration of Local food at Queen's Park in Toronto, my first thought was, "This is wonderful! Another event where we can create awareness around the importance of buying local food!" My next thought was naturally "I hope it doesn't rain!"

We were all very lucky yesterday as we basked in the sunshine (something we have been lacking for the past month), and despite the sudden sweltering temperatures, hundreds of people came out and enjoyed the bountyful farmers market filled with local foods.

The Honourable Carol Mitchell opened the market promptly at 12:00pm, making a wonderful announement about how Ontario farmers work very hard to provide you with healthy and nutritious foods, and of course that "Good Things Grow In Ontario."

Every Ontario food, from peppers to ice cream, was there handling out delicious samples. My helper, Amanda and I, handed out fresh crimini mushrooms with spinach dip. Simple, yet very statisfying on this hot spring day.

At the end of the day the message was still clear, Good Things (Do) Grow in Ontario!
